First post -- good morning!

Elected officials generally don't blog. They spend so much time "triangulating" their positions and following polls that they dare not risk saying what they really think. Especially in writing!

Well, there will be people who won't like some of the things I will say in the coming months. But it will be honest -- and, maybe at times, thought-provoking.

This is an experiment, and we'll see how it goes. I'll try to post regularly, and I'm interested in your feedback, too. When Abraham Lincoln was in the White House, he would set aside a morning once a week to meet anyone who wanted to come to see him -- no appointment necessary. He called it his "public opinion bath."
