The Killer Who Was Too Fat To Die, Part 2

Convicted killer Richard Cooey says that he’s so fat, prison officials won’t be able to find a vein for his lethal injection.

The Ohio Supreme Court ruled Thursday that they get to try.

The Ohio Supreme Court, in a very brief order, rejected Cooey’s motion for a stay of execution. Said the Court:

“This cause came on for further consideration of appellant's motion for stay of execution scheduled for October 14, 2008. Upon consideration thereof, it is ordered by the court that the motion is denied.”

Who says lawyers can’t be brief and to the point?

Tuesday, we’ll find out who was right – but my money is they’ll manage to find a vein and justice – delayed for twenty-two years – will finally be served.

Cooey and Clinton Dickens, who was 17 at the time and cooperated with police, dropped a piece of cement from an overpass onto the women's car while they were driving home from work in Akron. The men then pretended to help the women before they beat, raped and eventually killed them.

The women’s names were Dawn McCreery and Wendy Jo Offredo. Please remember their names – and forget the name of the Killer Who Was Too Fat to Die.
